Combined Flu and Covid Booster Vaccinations - Patient UpdateThis year flu vaccinations and Covid-19 booster vaccinations will be delivered as a combined programme by the Shrewsbury Primary Care Network and will take place at Severn Fields Health Village for all qualifying patients. Practices are waiting for information about the covid booster campaign at the same time as the public are, and do not yet have all the details. We are anticipating deliveries of covid booster vaccines to the Shrewsbury PCN in early October and the PCN will then start inviting eligible patients for a combined flu and covid booster appointment – this is in line with recommendations for patients to have the two vaccines together where possible. Appointments will be at the vaccination centre at Severnfields Medical Practice – and NOT at Shawbury surgery. Patients will be invited to these clinics in order of priority according to the JCVI cohorts as with the initial doses, and due to the volume of patients the PCN are vaccinating the clinics will be running right through to December. In the meantime, please make sure we have your up to date mobile telephone number, as this is the easiest way for us to invite you. PLEASE DO NOT TELPHONE THE PRACTICE TO ASK ABOUT THESE - Please wait for your invite from the PCN
Global Blood Bottle ShortageA supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests. Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems will still get one, but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled. Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available. Further information will be posted on Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) and Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Integrated Care System (ICS) websites as it becomes available.
Covid Restriction Update:Throughout the pandemic we have strived to make the surgery as safe as possible for all our patients and staff. We will continue to do so going forward. From the 19th July NOTHING will change at the surgery - patients will need to still wear a mask, socially distance and use hand sanitiser in the surgery and staff will continue to wear PPE. We do understand that it can be frustrating but we know that when people come to us they are sick and vulnerable (and some cannot receive the covid vaccinations due to medical reasons) so we feel it would be wrong to not take these small precautions that can protect people. In terms of opening up, as many of you know, we have never been shut and in fact have consulted with much higher numbers of patients than we did pre-covid (face to face, by phone, by e consult and by video), not counting vaccinating 90% of the adult population twice in the last 6 months. The local community has come so far in trying to minimise the impact of Covid and we are sure you understand that we need to keep the surgery as safe for ALL patients as we can.
Covid passportsYour General Practice is unable to offer you a certification of covid vaccination, a vaccination passport or a letter to prove you have been vaccinated against Covid-19. These proof of vaccination documents have not yet been developed and as such cannot be provided by your GP. As soon as we have further information we will share it with you.
